MacKenzie Art Gallery

Here are a couple photos of what the Grade 7 and 8 students experienced yesterday in Regina at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. Students enjoyed an exhibit from a well-known Saskatchewan artist by the name of Bob Boyer. Ask your son/daughter about it!

Classroom News - Oct. 30

Just a reminder about the day tomorrow:

Grade 7 students are off in the a.m. to Yorkdale for Practical and Applied Arts . Grade 6 are with me at M.C. Knoll. Immediately after lunch, their will be a school-wide Halloween parade in the gymnasium. At the conclusion of the parade, Grade 7 students will walk over to St. Mike's for the "sock hop". Grade 6 will be with me enjoying a snack and movie. Grade 6 students are encouraged to bring food/drink to the festivities.

Grade 7 Field Trip

Just another quick reminder:

The grade 7 students will be heading to Regina tomorrow to attend an exhibition at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. We will be departing at about 8:00 and will return about 4:00. Please ensure that your son/daughter is on time, as well as having the appropriate tools to survive the day (jacket, lunch/money, etc.).

Remember: their is the school-wide open house and barbeque today from about 5:30 to 7:00. Come on out to to see our wonderful school and classroom.

In addition, on Friday, Oct. 31, I am planning on having a movie and snack party for the Grade 6 students in our class (as the Grade 7 students will be attending the "sock-hop" at St. Mikes). Grade 6 students are encouraged to bring food/drink to the festivities.

Ask your son/daughter about the wonderful pumpkin carving activity, as well as the cattle scale experiment that we did today...

Classroom News - Oct. 20

Happy Monday,

I hope everyone had a terrific weekend. In class today we accomplished a number of things. First off, students learned the difference between absolute and relative location in Social Studies. They also learned what a simile and metaphor are in Language Arts. Lastly, Grade 7 started their (short) new unit in math - Relationship between Decimals and Fractions.

Ask your son/daughter about Rod MacIntyre - a speaker that the students had an opportunity to listen to today...

Secrets of the Underground Railroad Exhibition

Here is a glimpse into the awesome tour that 6S and 6/7M attended in Melville of the Secrets of the Underground Railroad. I think the students are now a little more appreciative of how "good" life is nowadays. Ask your son/daughter about it...

A Typical Day in our Classroom

These are just a few examples of how learning takes place in the 6/7 classroom - in small learning groups. Within each group, students are encouraged to utilize each others strengths. I always tell the students that "three or four brains are better than one"!!!

Please ensure that you have sent back the parental consent forms for this field trip. In addition, picture order forms are due Monday, Oct. 20. Please ensure that you send everything (form, money, etc.) on or before that date if you are interested in ordering photos of your son/daughter.

Classroom News - Oct. 8

Some EXCITING news to pass along this cold Wednesday:

I am very pleased to announce that our 6/7M classroom has officially been given a SmartBoard. It was installed yesterday and is fully operational. This is an extremely useful tool that will make learning that much more fun. Ask your son/daughter about it...

In addition to the field trip to Melville, Grade 7 will also attend a field trip to Regina's MacKenzie Art Gallery on Thursday, October 30. This will be a whole-day affair. Please refer to the new newsletter that I sent home today with your son/daughter about this field trip.

First off, I handed out the student picture order forms today. Make sure that you admire your son's/daughter's smiling face to determine which picture you want to order. Secondly, our class (and Mr. Schendels) is planning on taking a field trip to Melville on Friday, Oct. 17. We will be attending the "Secrets of the Underground Railroad" exhibition for the entire a.m.. I sent home a newsletter today with details about this field trip...

Classroom News - Oct. 3

In class today, students started answering questions from the novel "Island of the Blue Dolphins" (Chapters 1-4). Students are encouraged to continue to read the novel on their own time. In addition, Grade 6 started the CAT-3 today (Canadian Achievement Test, 3rd Edition). Grade 6 will continue to complete the CAT-3 on Monday.
